Arrival and accommodation check-in

Welcome to Beijing! Check-in at your accommodation. Depending on the time of your arrival, enjoy the rest of the day exploring the city or just get a good night’s sleep.

Day 2

place Day 2: Beijing, China

Today marks the beginning of your Beijing to Shanghai adventure! You'll meet your Adventure Leader late this morning, then embark on one of the most unforgettable experiences: an overnight stay on the Great Wall. We’ll kick off with a hearty lunch at a local farm to energize us for the hike ahead. In the mid-afternoon, we'll set out to explore the Wall's remote and unrestored sections. Afterward, we'll camp on the Wall itself, where we’ll take in a stunning sunset from one of the world’s most iconic landmarks.

[Please note: From late April to late September, when temperatures are colder, we will stay in a guesthouse near the Wall instead of camping.]

After taking in the awe-inspiring views, we’ll pack up and head back to Beijing, ready to dive into the wonders of this vast city. If you’re up for it, join us for a stroll through Tiananmen Square, a tour of the Forbidden City, and a visit to Jingshan Park.

In the evening, why not catch an acrobatics show? These incredible performances feature talented young artists from all over China, delivering circus-like spectacles.

Feeling hungry? This is the perfect time to indulge in Beijing’s signature dish – Peking duck, just like the ancient royalty did!

Enjoy one final free morning and afternoon in Beijing to explore any remaining sights. You might consider visiting the 798 Art District, the Summer Palace, or any other key attractions you haven’t yet seen. Don’t forget to ask your Adventure Leader for their top recommendations!

Later in the afternoon or early evening, we’ll head to Beijing station to catch our night train to Hangzhou.

After returning to the hostel, you’ll have time to freshen up and enjoy some lunch before checking out and preparing for the next leg of your journey.

In the afternoon, we’ll head to our next destination on the China backpacking tour: Shanghai! You’ll arrive in the early evening, just in time to check in and explore the surrounding area.
