Day 1

place Day 1: Athens - Kalambaka, Greece

Athens – Delphi – Kalambaka (D)

Depart Athens in the morning and take a scenic drive through the Veotia region, passing through Thebes and Levadia as your professional tour guide tells stories of famous legends like King Oedipus and illustrates evidence of human existence dating from 21,000 BC. After passing the picturesque village of Arachova, you will arrive at Delphi, known as the navel of the Earth. Delphi is one of the most famous sites of classical Greece, known for its theater, the Temple of Apollo and ancient ruins. Delphi was considered the center of the earth and the universe, and played a central role in the classical Greek world. After Delphi we depart for Kalambaka, passing through picturesque villages and towns in the Thessalian plain of Central Greece. Overnight in Kalambaka (a small town built at the foot of the majestic grey rocks, and crowded by the Meteora Monasteries).

Today we will get an early start to visit Meteora and take a tour of the cliff-top monasteries, built on top of rock towers and providing fantastic views over the plain. Meteora is considered one of the most beautiful areas of mainland Greece, and its monasteries contain priceless historical and religious treasures. We return to Athens via Thermopylae where we have a short stop to see the Leonidas Monument. We will arrive in Athens in late afternoon.
