Flight to Sandakan/ Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre /Bornean Sun Bear/Sukau Kinabatangan
Today you have an early morning flight to Sandakan. Upon arrival, you will visit the world-famous Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre - Founded in 1964, the Centre helps to teach once captive, injured or abandoned Orang Utans to learn and fend for themselves again, with the aim to return them to the forest. Walk through the rainforest towards the feeding platform for a chance to see the orangutans during their morning feed. Trek back to the centre for chance to watch baby orangutans play or train in the centre’s outdoor nursery. Then you will visit Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre – a rescue and rehabilitation facility for Malayan sun bears threatened by forest degradation, illegal hunting and poaching activities. Also known as ‘dog bear’ for its stocky, muscular build, small ears, and short muzzle, these adorable bears have an excellent sense of smell and extremely long claws, which they used to rip open trees and termite nests. They also have an almost comically long tongue for extracting honey from bee nests, giving them their other nickname, ‘honey bear’. Malayan sun bears are the smallest bears in the world and can only be found in Southeast Asia. Drive approximately 2 hours to Sukau village located by the Kinabatangan River. The Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary is internationally acknowledged by scientist and naturalist for its rich and diverse biodiversity. Afternoon river cruise to watch the Borneo endemic proboscis monkeys gather by the river bank. The distinctive nose of the proboscis monkey has endeared this monkey to many nature lovers. You may spot numerous other wildlife and birdlife. *Please note that this is a sharing tour Overnight at your accommodation.
