Day 2

place Salvador de Bahia

During the morning, we will get to know the Vida Baiana, the life of the inhabitants of Salvador. We leave the pousada by car to the São Joaquim market, on the shores of Baía de Todos los Santos. It's a maze full of stalls selling everything from fruits, vegetables, spices, medicinal and religious herbs to pieces and parts for appliances. We continue towards the city's financial center and walk to the Praça Municipal , which has a great view of the bay, and then walk along the narrow and busy streets with buildings in colors from the colonial era. We pass by the culinary museum, the house of Jorge Amado and some music stores. In the afternoon, we will have free time to take part in optional activities, like a visit to the Pelourinho from either an African or historical viewpoint. Overnight @ Bahiacafé Hotel | Standard Room.

Day 3

place Salvador de Bahia

In the morning we will see how, like most Brazilian cities, Salvador has grown immensely, however, not always in a controlled manner. We’ll go to the part of the city which is not always seen by most visitors, to witness the different realities of urban life for the fortunate and less fortunate. We'll go to a local community in the heart of some of the most exclusive residential areas to meet community leaders and receive a detailed explanation from the work being done. Projects focus on creating opportunities for the development of young adults and children. At night, we leave bound for Miguel Santana Theatre to watch the presentation of the Companhia de Balé Folclórico da Bahia. The company performs in the intimacy of Miguel Santana Theatre in the Pelourinho in a seamless presentation of the multiple African traditions that shape Bahian culture. We will see the sacred dances of Candomblé; “puxada de rede”, a song by fishermen in honor of Yemanja, the goddess of the sea; maculelê, a stick and sword dance acrobatics with its origins in the cane fields; capoeira, a martial art/dance of Angolan origin and the samba de roda, a version of this exuberant national dance. At the end of the show it is great to take advantage of having an experienced local with us and we ask him/her to recommend a nice restaurant for dinner. Overnight @ Bahiacafé Hotel | Standard Room.
