Day 2: Amazon Jungle, Peru
Amazon Boat Tour and Night Hike (B/L/D)
Rise early and have breakfast before heading out on a Leoncito Hike, where you can awe at the immense variety of flora around the lodge. Taste therapeutic water that is captured inside the vines of the Uncaria tomentosa plant (cat's claw) which is rumored to cure cancer and AIDS. Marvel at the giant Ceiba trees in the area and search for the pygmy marmoset, the world’s smallest monkey. If you’re lucky you’ll have the chance to see squirrel and tamarin monkeys. Listen for the noisy roar of the howler monkey that can be heard up to several kilometres away. Return to the lodge for lunch and then take a boat trip to the Purura and Corrientes lakes where you can go fishing. Try catching the famous carnivorous piranha. Search for the colourful Hoatzin bird among strangler vines and millions of jungle trees. Have dinner back at the lodge and then go out on another night hike in search of giant frogs and harmless tarantulas. NOTE: Once you catch any piranhas, we recommend you let them go. If you like, we will take the largest piranha you catch to the lodge so that the chef can prepare it for dinner. The rest are set free.

Walk or row in towards the lake, looking for different species of birds and monkeys. Enjoy lunch back at the lodge followed by an afternoon canoe or boat excursion to Jorge Caño to search for the Howler Monkey. Visit the local village of San Juan de Yanayacu and mingle with the villagers, buy handicrafts made from seeds or vegetable ivory or start an impromptu soccer game. Have dinner back at the lodge and take a canoe trip to soak up the sounds of the jungle and glimpse your last nocturnal animals.
