Belgrade - Topola / Oplenac
Excursion to Central Serbia, some 80km south of Belgrade, a region rich with cultural and historical legacy and also well known for its wine production! Sumadija is a region of Central Serbia, where the Serbian fight for independence against the Turks began in 19th century. The two royal families (Obrenovic and Karadjordjevic) who fought not only the Turks, but also each other, both originate from these lands. First we reach Oplenac – the mausoleum of royal family Karadjordjevic. We will visit the St. George's Church, where 26 members of the royal family are buried, including the founder of the dynasty – Karadjordje Petrovic (eng. Black George), who led the First Serbian Uprising against the Turks at the beginning of 19th century. During the tour of Oplenac we will see the St. George’s Church with a stunning crypt, the King Peter's house and the royal wine cellar with wine tasting. As we find ourselves in Serbia’s most prominent wine region, we head to a local winery and restaurant for optional lunch. A restaurant is located in the heart of the vineyards where guests can enjoy both in local specialties and great views of the surrounding hills. Return to Belgrade in early evening hours.
