Arrival in Puerto Maldonado & River Expedition

Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, our friendly staff will warmly greet you at the airport, bus terminal, or your hotel. After registration at our scenic riverside office, your exciting Amazon journey begins! At 11:30 AM, 2:00 PM, or 5:00 PM, board the boat to travel down the majestic Madre de Dios River, gliding past vibrant green forests, exotic birds, and mesmerizing wildlife. Your adventure will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Settle into Your Jungle Oasis (1:00 PM, 3:30 PM, or 6:30 PM depending on boat selection)

Arriving at Amazon Planet Lodge, nestled deep within the rainforest, check into your private bungalow, thoughtfully prepared for your comfort. Take time to rest and immerse yourself in the sounds and sights of pristine nature.

Flavorful Jungle Lunch (1:30 PM at lodge for first boat, 1:00 PM in town for second boat passengers)

Enjoy a delicious, freshly-prepared lunch bursting with local ingredients. Relax, refresh, and get energized for your upcoming exploration.

Exciting Botanical Jungle Walk (3:45 PM – approximately 1.5 hours, first and second boats only)

With your expert naturalist guide, embark on a fascinating introductory walk along winding rainforest trails and botanical gardens. Learn about medicinal plants, exotic trees, and marvel at the incredible biodiversity surrounding you.

Twilight Jungle Exploration—Encounter the Secrets of the Night (6:45 PM – approximately 1 hour, second and third boat arrivals)

When darkness envelops the jungle, your adventure continues! Armed with flashlights and guided by specialists, you will discover nocturnal rainforest wildlife—spotting curious creatures, from delicate frogs and luminous insects to birds and mammals adapted uniquely for nighttime survival.

Authentic Amazonian Dinner (8:00 PM – all guests)

End your exciting day with a specially-curated dinner featuring delicious local Amazonian cuisine, freshly crafted using native ingredients and flavors.

Restful Jungle Sleep (Generator off at 10:30 PM)

Stand 45 meters above the jungle floor atop an ancient Lupuna tree, connected by a incredible 90-meter-long suspension bridge. Experience breathtaking views and marvel at brightly colored macaws, parrots, toucans, and other birds soaring gracefully at eye-level. Truly an unforgettable jungle highlight!

Wildlife Rescue at Taricaya Rescue Center 

Next, arrive at the renowned Taricaya Rescue Center. Accompanied by your experienced guide, discover how committed experts rehabilitate rescued Amazon wildlife, including jaguars, pumas, spectacled bears, vibrant macaws, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, jaguarondi, tapirs, turtles, and more.

Important Reminder: 

This center is strictly dedicated to wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education—it is NOT a zoo. Animals here are recovering for release back into their natural habitat. Interaction or petting is strictly forbidden, as rehabilitation is prioritized. Taricaya is renowned for successfully reintroducing endangered spider monkeys back into the wild—a feat unmatched elsewhere in Peru!

Cruise 45 minutes upriver in the cool pre-dawn air to reach the entrance of the Tambopata National Reserve. Embark on a captivating 3 km guided trek along rainforest trails teeming with diverse flora and fauna. Prepare for departure: finalize packing and enjoy one last look at your rainforest bungalow. Simply leave your packed luggage by your bungalow’s door, where porters will collect and load it safely onto the boat. Take a final glance around your lodge to make sure you haven't left anything behind.

Riverboat Journey Back to Civilization

Depending on your departure time, we'll arrange your transfer and drop you directly at the airport, bus station, or local hotel. For guests with later scheduled departures, feel free to relax at our comfortable lounge area, use complimentary Wi-Fi to reconnect and share your adventure stories, or ask our friendly team about arranging optional city tours or taxi services (any tours and taxi services not part of program itinerary involve extra costs).
