Start your South African experience with a full day walking tour of Johannesburg (including a choice of museums). Explore the fascinating immigrant town of Johannesburg and get to know the different African cultures and the local hospitable people. Soweto Township Tour


Take a two-hour tour of Soweto during which you can cycle, walk or ride - whatever you choose. This tour will open your mind about township living and its unique ways. Here you can find Vilakazi Street, the only street in the world where two Nobel Peace Laureates lived – Tata Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Try Shisa Nyama (barbequed meat) and Makwenya (doughnut). Or for the very brave, a Smiley (sheep's head). You will see the good and the sometimes, not so good of this astonishing town.

Your time will be dedicated to helping children learn new skills and more importantly, expand their world view. You will be helping a community that have limited access to resources, all it takes to have a big impact, is as small as providing an extra pair of hands for teachers/caregivers. We want you to use your initiative and skills when working at primary schools with children (Age 6 to 12). You will help to provide the care and attention these young people of South Africa need create a better life. Live like a local, meet fascinating personalities and be part of our Community. You will be volunteering Monday through Friday and will have the weekends to explore as you please. In the mornings you will be volunteering as a teachers’ assistant in a large classroom of six-year old boys and girls. Your time will be spent doing anything from reading stories to washing faces, kicking a ball in the school yard to taking the little one to the bathroom.  In the afternoons you will b encouraging reading and literacy, supervising games and sports, and assisting with arts and cultural activities. You can even get your hands dirty in the permaculture garden and learn to cook authentic African cuisine.
