Day 1

place Day 1: Nairobi - Samburu Game Reserve, Kenya

Transfer from Nairobi to the Samburu Game Reserve (L/D)
In the morning, travel by road to Kenya’s northern frontier. Wild and rugged, Samburu Game Reserve is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River. It is also one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the Equator; from the Reticulated Giraffe to Grevy’s Zebras and Beisa Oryxes. Later, enjoy Larsens Tented Camp or Samburu Intrepids Camp, our luxurious hostelry set beneath a canopy of acacia trees along the banks of the river.

Game drive at Samburu Game Reserve (B/L/D)


Dawn breaks in golden bands as you start your day in the bush, scanning the river from our tent’s veranda, with a cup of steaming coffee in hand. Before the dew is off the grass, you are off in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve’s grasslands and acacia woodlands. The rest of the day is spent exploring the bush and/or relaxing in your cozy lodge/camp.

Day 3

Ol Pejeta Ranch and Rhino Reserve, Chimanzee Sanctuary, and waterhole (B/L/D)


Today head to the exotic Sweetwaters Tented Camp or Porini Rhino Camp in the secluded heart of Ol Pejeta Ranch and Rhino Reserve. Here, these magnificent beasts are given sanctuary from those who would take their lives to sell their horns. Here too, the Jane Goodall Institute operates a remarkable Chimpanzee Sanctuary where you meet the primates face to face. Your camp overlooks one of the busiest waterholes in the area where elephant, giraffe and myriad plains game gather. This is Africa as Teddy Roosevelt saw it years ago when he led one of the first safaris to tour Africa in comfort and splendor. Your tents at Sweetwaters or Porini Rhino Camp will remind you of this bygone era.

Day 4

place Day 4: Sweetwaters Game Reserve – Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya

Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park  and game drive (B/L/D)


Travel to the exotic Lake Nakuru National Park located in the Great Rift Valley today. After lunch, an exciting game drive is planned for the afternoon. The game in this park is plentiful and the magnificent bird watching will make a devotee out of even the most reluctant. The Park is home to stunning colonies of Lesser and Greater Flamingos, which literally turn the lakeshores into a magnificent pink stretch. The bird life here is world renown and over 400 bird species exist here; White Pelicans, Plovers, Egrets and Marabou Stork. It is also one of the very few places in Africa to see the white Rhino and rare Rothschild Giraffe.

Day 5

place Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya

Drive to Great Rift Valley up to the Masai Mara National Reserve (B/L/D)


In the morning, drive through the dramatic Great Rift Valley up to the Masai Mara National Reserve (also known as Maasai Mara). This enormous reserve is actually part of the vast Serengeti plains, famously known for the spectacular great wildebeest migration, and is home to the Big Five: Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino. Have lunch at your lodge/camp and take a rest before departing for the afternoon game drive. The Mara Game Reserve is one of the greatest wildernesses of the world and large mammals are numerous, and easy to see. Residents among the Park are: Masai Giraffe, Buffalo, Eland and thousands of plain game including Impala, Zebra, Topi, both Thomson's and grants Gazelles.

During your stay, you also get the opportunity to visit a village of the Maasai people to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals (optional). A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience.
